Jayden Luhur and Physioactive Team

My name is Jayden Luhur, and I am going into my second year as an undergraduate student at York University in Toronto. I am majoring in Kinesiology, and I plan to become a physiotherapist. In July 2024, I interned at Physioactive Jakarta for two weeks and learned a tremendous amount. Going into the internship, I expected to gain a better understanding of how to identify injuries and execute a plan to help patients recover. Additionally, I wanted to compare and contrast different techniques and approaches to physiotherapy from previous internships.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time interning at Physioactive Jakarta because the staff consistently went above and beyond to accommodate the clients’ needs. The physiotherapists were exceptional in their ability to tailor workout plans to each individual’s fitness level, ensuring exercises were both effective and comfortable for the clients. Their personalized approach greatly enhanced the overall treatment experience. Additionally, the receptionists played a crucial role in creating a welcoming environment by offering food and drinks to clients as soon as they walked in. This thoughtful gesture made clients feel valued and well-cared for from the moment they entered the facility.

During my internship at Physioactive Jakarta, I had the opportunity to learn about dry needling and its effectiveness in loosening stiffened muscles to reduce pain. Dry needling involves inserting thin needles into trigger points in the muscles, which helps release tension, improve blood flow, and alleviate discomfort. Observing its application, I saw firsthand how this technique can significantly enhance a patient’s mobility and reduce pain levels. Additionally, I gained insight into the use of ultrasound therapy, which uses sound waves to penetrate deep tissues, promoting faster healing and reducing inflammation. This non-invasive treatment was particularly impressive in its ability to accelerate recovery, making it a valuable tool in physiotherapy.

I was impressed by their use of a specialized app to monitor patients’ day-to-day pain levels and manage their treatment plans. This app allowed patients to log their pain intensity regularly, enabling the physiotherapists to track progress and adjust treatments as needed. Additionally, the app provided a detailed list of exercises tailored to each patient, complete with the recommended number of reps and sets. This innovative approach ensured that patients could maintain consistency in their rehabilitation routines while receiving ongoing, personalized support from their therapists.

In conclusion, my internship at Physioactive Jakarta was a truly rewarding experience. Everyone I met at the clinic, from the physiotherapists to the receptionists, was extremely kind and welcoming. Their dedication to patient care and willingness to share their knowledge made my time there incredibly valuable. I learned a great deal about various physiotherapy techniques, patient interaction, and the use of technology in treatment. This experience has greatly enhanced my understanding and passion for physiotherapy, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a supportive and professional environment.
